That is something I personally think is the biggest mistake it made: splitting so much screen time between new cast and old cast. It is an unfocused show and the new cast were overall not as good as the old cast. That makes it interesting.Ġ2 added a lot to the overall setting of Digimon that I think worked, and its not bad. Its not a replacement for the originals, its just a weird Americanized bastardization that could only exist at that time and for that franchise. Love it or hate it, the soundtrack is a product of its time through and through. Also the soundtrack is something else entirely. There is also a lot of interesting trivia around the reasoning of the script changes that adds a whole new crazy layer to it. I didn't know about the originals as a kid so the emotional impact of the cut worked on me. If this was just a dub of the prequel short + OWG or Golden Digimentals then it probably would not get lambasted as much. I do think some of the added comedy was actually good at times. I think that the US cut has some charm and is fun to watch, but it was just a blatant cash grab to ride the Pokémon: The First Movie coat tails.
